Young’s Reports Strong Sales Growth as Bank Holidays, World Cup and Wimbledon Drive Summer Trading

Young’s has announced a strong start to its new financial year, with sales continuing to build on the momentum reported in its annual results as favourable weather, major sporting events and bank holidays brought more customers through its doors.

The premium pub operator said revenue for the first 14 weeks of the financial year, beginning on 31 March 2026, increased by 9.4% overall, with like-for-like sales rising 5.5% compared with the same period last year.

The company described trading as “exceptional”, particularly during the late May bank holiday weekend.

Summer Weather and Sporting Calendar Deliver Strong Performance

Young’s said pubs with outdoor spaces performed particularly well, with beer gardens and riverside locations benefiting from the warm weather and increased customer demand.

The business also highlighted a busy sporting calendar as a major driver of sales.

The start of the FIFA World Cup, combined with extended opening hours for England’s later matches, encouraged more customers to visit pubs to watch the action.

More recently, the annual Wimbledon Championships provided another welcome boost to trading across the estate.

Cubitt House Acquisition Already Contributing

Young’s also confirmed that its recently acquired Cubitt House estate is already making a positive contribution to the business.

The company said integration of the pubs is progressing as planned and has strengthened its portfolio of premium venues.

The latest figures suggest the acquisition is already delivering value as Young’s continues to expand its presence in key locations.

Premium Pub Strategy Continues to Deliver

The company credited its performance to its long-term strategy of investing in premium pubs, high-quality accommodation and distinctive venues.

Despite continued pressures facing the wider hospitality industry, Young’s believes its focus on well-invested pubs and customer experience leaves the business well positioned for the future.

The company also reaffirmed its intention to continue investing selectively across its estate to maintain high standards and support long-term growth.

Chief Executive Praises Teams

Chief Executive Simon Dodd thanked staff across the business for delivering another strong trading performance.

He said:

“We are very pleased with our strong start to the new financial year, and I would like to thank all our teams for their hard work and dedication in delivering this performance.

“Our premium, well-invested and differentiated pubs and bedrooms continue to deliver, with Young’s pubs performing strongly in the first quarter.

“This was supported by favourable weather, a busy summer of sport, with England’s success in the World Cup so far, a welcome boost and contributions from our expanded estate, as we integrate the Cubitt House pubs.

“While the backdrop remains challenging, we are well positioned and looking ahead to the rest of the year with confidence.”

Positive Outlook Despite Industry Challenges

While the hospitality sector continues to face rising operating costs and economic uncertainty, Young’s believes its premium offering and ongoing investment programme continue to set the business apart.

With summer trading underway and a busy calendar of sporting events continuing to attract customers, the company remains optimistic about the months ahead.
