Two Men Charged After Pub Break-In Sees Till and Booze Stolen

A pub break-in in Cambridgeshire has led to two men being charged — after alcohol, snacks and even a till were taken.

What Happened

Police were called to the Royal Oak on Crown Street at around 8:50pm on Monday, April 6.

Reports came in of a break-in at the pub, with items stolen during the incident.

Among the things taken were:

  • Alcohol
  • Orange juice
  • Crisps
  • A till

Not exactly a subtle haul.

Charges Brought

Cambridgeshire Police confirmed two men have now been charged.

  • Darren Scales, from Norwich, has been charged with two counts of burglary
  • Jack Simmons, from Somersham, has been charged with burglary and criminal damage

Both were due to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on April 8.

Quick Arrests

Following the report, officers acted quickly, leading to arrests and charges within a short timeframe.

It’s not clear how much damage was caused during the break-in, but incidents like this can hit pubs hard — especially smaller locals.

More Than Just a Few Drinks

While it might sound minor — drinks, snacks and a till — theft like this can cause real disruption.

Lost stock, damaged property, and the cost of repairs all add up.

And for pubs already dealing with tight margins, it’s the last thing they need.

Ongoing Case

The case will now proceed through the courts as the charges are dealt with.

A Growing Issue?

Break-ins like this are becoming more common across the UK, particularly targeting pubs and small businesses.

Whether it’s opportunistic or planned, it’s another challenge facing the trade.

Have you seen more break-ins happening around pubs in your area?
