  • real ale,
  • or simply being the heart of the community…

Every pub has the chance to be nominated.

Pub Social is encouraging readers from all over the country to get involved and nominate pubs from their towns, villages and cities.

  1. The sutherland arms, stoke on trent, amazing community pub, with awesome value boutique rooms above, friendly regulars, amazing staff, best pint of bass ive had

  2. The Brownlow Arms, Comber (N.I) represents something increasingly rare — a genuine traditional local pub that hasn’t sacrificed its identity to follow trends. Warm, welcoming, and full of character, it offers the kind of authentic atmosphere many modern pubs have lost. It’s not trying to be fashionable; it’s trying to be a proper pub — and that’s exactly why it deserves recognition.

It’s also a true locals’ bar in the best sense of the phrase. The kind of place where people know who’ll be in, what seat they’ll be sitting in, and roughly what time they’ll arrive. That familiarity creates a sense of community you simply can’t fake. Regulars aren’t just customers — they’re part of the atmosphere and identity of the pub itself.

With its old-fashioned charm, cash-only simplicity, and stove bringing warmth to the centre of the room, the Brownlow offers something increasingly hard to find: authenticity. It hasn’t tried to reinvent itself into a trendy gastropub or polished chain-style venue. Instead, it has stayed loyal to what it has always been — a proper local pub where conversation, character, and community still come first.

  3. The City Wall Wine Bar, Rochester
A wonderful wine bar with a fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff and an excellent selection of wines. Always a great night out.

  4. Ker Street Social Club, Plymouth
A true community venue that brings people together with live music, sport and a warm welcome for everyone.

  5. The Yorkshire Grey, Earls Croome, Worcestershire. Excellent food, welcoming and a great all round experience. Wonderful beer garden overlooking fields and The Malvern hills in the distance.

  6. The Yorkshire Grey
    Earles Coombe
Fantastic food always get a warm welcome and all the staff are so friendly and efficient.

  7. The Old Colonial is everything a great local pub should be and more. What makes it even more impressive is the story behind it. A 24 year old barmaid took over what was a struggling pub with no previous experience of running a business and, in just 12 months, has completely transformed it into a thriving community pub.

The passion and effort she has put into this place is obvious the moment you walk through the door. There is now fantastic weekend street food, live music, a welcoming atmosphere, and a genuine focus on real ale that deserves huge credit. It feels like a pub with real heart again.

We genuinely could not speak more highly of what she is doing. It takes courage for a young person to take on something as challenging as a failing pub, especially in the current climate, and the local pub community should absolutely be getting behind people like her. The turnaround has been incredible and the Old Colonial is quickly becoming one of the best community pubs around.
