A growing campaign is underway to save The Golden Lion, as locals and supporters come together in a desperate bid to protect yet another British pub from disappearing for good.
A petition has been launched and is already gaining momentum, calling on decision-makers to step in and help secure the future of the pub.
Supporters say The Golden Lion is more than just a place to drink — it’s a vital part of the community, a meeting point, and a piece of local history.
Across the UK, pubs continue to face mounting pressure from rising costs, changing habits, and economic challenges. For many communities, losing a pub means losing a social hub that simply can’t be replaced.
The campaign reflects a growing frustration among locals who feel pubs are being lost too easily, often without enough support or intervention.
The message from the community is clear — act now, or risk losing another pub for good.

The Golden Lion has been a pub longer than many of us have been alive. Jamie, Steve and Tracey have brought this pub back life and they do so much for charity. They and all the staff are friendly and welcoming and it is a great place to drink, chill and enjoy yourself. It will be a very sad day if this has to close 😢
Couldn’t agree more — the The Golden Lion is exactly what a proper pub should be.
Jamie, Steve, Tracey and the team have clearly put a huge amount into bringing it back to life, and that community spirit — especially the charity work — is what keeps places like this at the heart of the town.
It’s pubs like this that people really feel if they disappear. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that.
