The Royal Inn in Par will shut its doors after the summer season, with owners admitting they are unsure if the pub will ever reopen.
Cornwall Pub Announces Closure After ‘Wonderful’ Three Years
Another Cornish pub is preparing to close its doors as uncertainty continues to grow across the hospitality industry.
The Royal Inn in Par, near St Austell, has announced it will shut permanently on September 6 after three years under new ownership.
The Eastcliffe Road pub has built a loyal following since reopening under current management, with many locals praising the venue during its recent revival.
But despite that support, the future of the pub now remains unclear.
‘With a Heavy Heart’
Current operator Lucy confirmed the closure in an emotional message shared with customers on social media.
“It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce The Royal Inn will be shutting its doors for the last time on the 6th of September this year,” she said.
“I’ve had a wonderful time, and it has been an absolute pleasure to serve all of you; between sharing drunken laughs and sober catch ups, I couldn’t have asked for a better three years.”
Lucy also thanked customers for their support throughout the pub’s recent chapter.
“To have gained so many connections, lifelong friends, and fond memories is something not everyone can say they’ve experienced,” she added.
Uncertain Future for the Venue
The team behind The Royal Inn admitted they currently do not know whether the pub will reopen in the future.
“We are unsure if or when the doors will open again, but we will update when we can,” the statement continued.
The closure adds to growing concern around the future of pubs and hospitality venues across Cornwall, with several other venues also recently announcing closures or operational struggles.
More Cornwall Pub Closures
The news comes during a difficult period for Cornwall’s pub trade.
Only days earlier, The Rising Sun in Truro closed once again less than six months after reopening.
Meanwhile, Whitbread has also confirmed plans to shut multiple restaurants and pub venues across Cornwall as part of wider national closures affecting Brewers Fayre and Beefeater sites.
Venues reportedly affected include:
- The Carclaze in St Austell
- The Bay Tree in Helston
- Loggins Moor Brewers Fayre in Hayle
- Carnon Inn Beefeater in Truro
The wider closure programme could result in thousands of job losses nationally.
Community Reaction
For many locals, pubs like The Royal Inn are far more than businesses.
They act as gathering places, social hubs and important community spaces — especially in smaller towns and villages.
The announcement has already sparked sadness among regulars who spent the last three years supporting the venue.
Conclusion
While The Royal Inn still has a few more months before last orders are called, the closure marks yet another worrying moment for Cornwall’s struggling pub scene.
Whether the doors ever reopen again remains unknown.
