Editorial Policy

Last updated: 19 August 2026

Pub & Social covers British pubs, beer, hospitality, local culture and the people who keep community venues alive. This policy explains how we choose, research, write and maintain our editorial content.

Our editorial purpose

We aim to publish useful, engaging and accurate work for readers with a genuine interest in pubs and hospitality. Our coverage includes news, explainers, heritage profiles, interviews, opinion and practical guides. We try to add context and independent editorial value rather than simply repeating a press release or another publisher’s report.

Accuracy and sourcing

Writers should distinguish verified fact, informed analysis and opinion. Claims about dates, legal status, company results, public decisions or historic buildings should be checked against reliable sources. We prefer primary material such as official records, company statements, filings, public bodies and direct interviews. When another publication has original reporting, we credit and link to it.

Where a venue profile is based on desk research rather than a recent visit, we say so. Readers should check current opening hours, prices, menus, accessibility and facilities directly with a venue because those details can change quickly.

Independence and commercial relationships

Editorial judgement is separate from advertising. Payment for advertising does not buy favourable coverage or control over an editorial conclusion. Sponsored, affiliate or supplied content must be clearly labelled so readers can understand the relationship.

Writers and editors should disclose a material personal or financial interest in a subject. If a conflict cannot be managed transparently, the assignment should be given to someone else or not published.

Reviews, opinion and user contributions

Reviews and opinion pieces may be subjective, but factual statements within them should still be supportable. We do not present a researched profile as a first-hand visit. Quotes should retain their intended meaning and should not be edited in a way that materially changes what a contributor said.

Reader submissions and guest contributions may be edited for accuracy, clarity, length, tone and legal risk. Publication is at the editor’s discretion. Contributors remain responsible for having the right to submit their text and images.

Digital and AI-assisted tools

Digital tools, including AI-assisted tools, may be used to organise research, develop a structure, check readability or support drafting. Tool output is not treated as a factual source. Material intended for publication should be checked against reliable evidence, rewritten where necessary and reviewed for accuracy, originality, tone and usefulness. We do not knowingly publish fabricated quotes, invented first-hand experiences or misleading documentary images.

Corrections and updates

When a material error is identified, we aim to correct it promptly and transparently. Significant changes may be explained in a note on the article. Minor spelling, punctuation or formatting changes may be made without a correction note. Please read our Corrections & Updates Policy for more detail.
