Diversity & Inclusion Policy

Last updated: 19 August 2026

Pubs are shared social spaces, but people do not experience them in the same way. Pub & Social aims to reflect the variety of people, places and traditions that make up British pub culture while avoiding tokenism and stereotypes.

Our coverage

We seek stories from different regions, communities, generations and parts of the hospitality industry. That includes customers, licensees, bar staff, brewers, campaigners, performers, volunteers and people who may face barriers to taking part in pub life.

Editorial value, evidence and relevance remain central. Inclusion means widening the range of credible voices and questions in our work, not assigning a viewpoint to someone because of their identity.

Language and representation

We use respectful, specific language and avoid unnecessary references to protected or personal characteristics. When identity is relevant to a story, we aim to describe it accurately and in the terms people use for themselves, while retaining editorial independence.

Photographs, illustrations, headlines and captions should not misrepresent a person or turn a community into a stereotype. Humour and opinion do not excuse harassment or dehumanising language.

Accessibility

We aim to make articles understandable, navigable and usable across common devices. Clear headings, meaningful link text, image descriptions and readable structure all matter. Technical or accessibility problems can be reported through our Contact Us page.

Sources and contributors

Writers should consider whose perspective is missing, particularly when a decision affects a local community. No single person can speak for an entire group. Contributors should be quoted in context and told how their material may be used where practical.

Learning and accountability

We will not always get every choice right. Specific feedback helps us recognise gaps, improve language and commission better follow-up coverage. Concerns can be raised under our Feedback Policy, and factual errors are handled through our Corrections & Updates Policy.
